Hey everyone,
I have been offered a Pacmate by a friend who wants to get rid of it. I just wanted to know from those of you who have them, are they worth owning? It's a substantial price to buy and I just wanted some thoughts from you all on how they work. Especially how the braille display is b/c that is the main reason I wanted to get it.
The braille display is fine, but the pda part only has 128meg of memory, and cf slots to expand that. It's not worth it. By the way, is it an omni?
Yes it is an Omni.
Good. That gives you... let's see... nothing to speak about, except that if it were not an omni, you'd only get 64meg of memory instead of 128. Still not worth it, in my opinion.

Agree. Pac Mates really aren't worth the money. If you're just interested in the Braille display, you might be better off looking for a Braille display to pair with a laptop or something. I still use my Pac Mate for work but honestly, most days I wish I just had a laptop and a Braille display. The Pac Mate is very limiting.
That is what I have kind of gathered. No PM for me.
The PAC Mate is Ok if you understand its limitations (i.e. impractically slow when loading heavy Web pages, large attachments, etc.). If you are looking for a notetaker on which to type in Braille, a reasonable email system etc., it is OK. But, it is not worth the price tag.
